Partying & Wrinkles

Does partying make you appear older? Is the Miami night life aging you?

We get it, Miami is a party city. It’s one of the things we love about it. But, did you know that by living it up in Miami’s clubs and bars it’s actually making you look.. old?!

The real culprit behind this is our frenemy alcohol. The biggest thing alcohol does is dehydrate us. We’ve all heard that drinking alcohol can cause damage to our liver, but- did you know that it actually takes all the fluid from your skin, leaving you with dehydrated skin? And having no moisture leads to sagging, dryness and wrinkles. So basically, yes, partying can make you age quicker. But what’s worse is, if you are older, these effects can be be much more damaging to aging skin.

Not only does drinking cause the obvious damage mentioned above, but it can affect your sleep patterns. Alcohol may make you fall asleep faster when you get home from a long night of partying, but what you may not realize is that alcohol can be stopping you from reaching the REM (rapid eye movement) sleep cycle. When you don’t get the right amount of sleep, you’ll age faster. Don’t underestimate what a good snooze can do for you.

Also, don’t think it’s just alcohol. Something that usually accompanies a night out of drinking is smoking. If you are looking to maintain that youth look, smoking is a big no no.

And hey- everyone deserves to have some fun every once and while, but definitely try to limit how much fun you’re having! And when you do have fun, make sure you make an appointment at BLUR and we'll help you stay looking young even through your crazy Miami nights! :)
